Science and Technology Education Key Learning Area

The Science Education KLA aims to provide students with a broad range of learning experiences that enable them to build a solid foundation in science, nurture their scientific literacy, and acquire the ability to integrate and apply relevant knowledge and skills across KLAs, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students develop positive values and attitudes that enhance their personal development as scientifically literate citizens and more effective lifelong learners in the 21st century.

The Science Education KLA includes Integrated Science, Computer Science, school-based STEM classroom curriculum at junior secondary levels, and science and technology-related elective subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Information and Communication Technology, at senior secondary levels. Through classroom, hands-on, and brain-based explorative learning activities, each subject aims to nurture students’ interest in science and build their scientific knowledge, thereby nurturing the students into self-motivated science learners who value learning.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of the development of science, technology and mathematics, the disciplines within the Science Education KLA are closely linked to mathematics to promote STEM education in our school. We aim to build a solid knowledge foundation in STEM-related areas and to enhance students’ ability to integrate and apply interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, thereby nurturing their universal competencies such as creativity, innovative thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. These are essential skills and qualities for life in the 21st century. By designing and producing practical products and participating in other follow-up activities such as explaining inventions, students can integrate different areas of knowledge and apply universal skills in solving real-life problems.
